Samson Chaziya
Samson is our director in Malawi and founder of Samalni Orphan Care and Youth Organisation.
Samson Chaziya was born and raised in Malawi in a very poor family. He worked hard and raised enough money for primary education, which at that time had to be paid for. After finishing school, because there were no jobs in his area, he moved to the capital to look for work and a better life.
In 2005, as famine gripped Malawi and many died from starvation, Samson recognised the need for community action in order to combat the difficulties that people were facing. Therefore, he turned his home into a feeding centre, known as “Samalani” (compassion).
As well as founding Samalani, Samson has gone on to fulfil his ambition to further educate himself. Through UNICEF, he recently completed a course in Social Care at University, which trains him in working with children at risk.

“By going to school I will acquire different important skills and become a more intelligent person” says Lekeleni.
Lekelenis role model is Samson. “He helps so may orphans, they are lacking in so many things such as food clothing and money.”
We wish Lekelenis all the best for this coming school year.

Blessings
Blessings is 23 years old and lives with his two younger brothers, who are twelve and eight. Since their parents died he has had to emotionally and financially support them.
By learning carpentry skills he can make enough money to be able to support himself and pay for his brothers’ school fees as well.
He says: “Life for the poor is very, very tough. One cannot manage, but cannot run away, so you just stay here with nowhere to go. Money buys something, but skills will be with you for life.”
Since graduating from carpentry and joinery Blessing is now hired by Community Opportunity and is teaching Carpentry to new students wanting to learn.
